Vapiano

Where: Vapiano, 119 Albert Lane Brisbane
http://www.vapiano.com.au/

When you bring Italy and Australia together you get some good things – like Ron Barassi and the Daddo brothers.

But when you bring traditional Italian recipes together with fresh local Australian produce, that’s when you get some truly great things.

To celebrate the coming together of these truly great things, we invite you to join us and director Will Cooke to be one of the first in Brisbane to enjoy the Vapiano experience.

With over 65 locations across the globe, Brisbane will be home to the first Vapiano on Australian soil.

Vapiano creates all its dishes from good, old-fashioned Italian recipes using on the best local meat, produce, cheese and flour. And when we say local, we mean local. Wherever possible, Vapiano sources everything from within a 150 kilometer radius. The fresh herbs are grown right right in our herb garden and placed on our tables for you to get your dishes flavours just the way you like them.

In the words of the Italians, “chi va piano, va sano e va lontano”, which literally translated means “do everything easy and relaxed in life, live healthier and longer”.

Editors Note

Vapiano offers a fresh and innovative approach to the modern Italian dining experience while featuring many classical Italian dishes

The restaurant which is one of 65 in the chain currently around the world, makes its own fresh pasta for preparing and serving from the open styled kitchens – the food preparation process is fully transparent, including the pasta making and adds a touch of interest for those who are interested beyond the plate.

Another curious yet very practical feature of Vapiano is the individual billing system, based on a plastic card which you receive upon arrival and scan for reach item you order. Each person has their own bill. Most convenient for the lunch time market.

Built over two levels and featuring a beautiful mature Olive Tree as one of the central focal points in the upstairs dining and bar, the food was enjoyable and certainly very fresh. I enjoyed the approach and will certainly return.

Salute

Blu Grotto Cafe Bar Baroona Rd

Blu Grotto Cafe Bar Baroona Rd

This eclectic venue is a dependable choice for tasty food, from salads and wraps to hearty steaks from the chargrill. Aside from satisfying the stomach, this groovy spot entertains with neon-lit decor, pumping house music and cocktails.

Not the discovery, but the revelation of the "Blu Grotto" is to be credited to the romantic disposition of two German tourists who visited Capri in 1826: Augustus Kopisch, a writer, and Ernst Fries, a painter.

The Grotta was, however, already known locally as "Grotta Gradola", the name being taken from the neighbouring ancient landing place of Gradola and Gradelle, even though it was avoided as a weird and bewitched place not so much because of its narrow access, as because of the legends about monsters and witches that dwelt in it….

The Blu Grotto in Rosalie village is inspired by this natural phenomenon. A dark cavernous opening reveals a mystery of relaxation, fine food and great service. The Blu Grotto has occupied the prime position overlooking the passing parade of trendy Rosalie Village for eight years. The ambience is relaxed and the food affordable and unpretentious modern Australian with Mediterranean and Asian influences.

Whether you are looking for a coffee, cake, cocktail, beer, wine, juice, full meal or share plate from 11.00 weekdays (Excl Mon & Tue) and 8.00 am Sundays until late, then Blu Grotto is the destination for you.

Grappino Given Tce

Mint green and aubergine; chrome legs, Formica tops and vinyl chairs... Grappino is Italian retro "chic kitsch" at its best. Match their delicious, home-style fare with an Italian wine and have a bella sera.

As a typical Trattoria, Grappino's is a bustling place with quality food and value for money. Your dining experience will be filled with laughter as you are surrounded by family and good friends. Its a casual place where you can eat often. There is no fuss about the meals. They are simple and delicious.
Chef Roduner believes in the basics. The simplicity of cooking with a loving respect for nature and food prepared with passion & inspiration.

History
Opened in late 2004, Grappino has grown from strength to strength. The Roduner's moved their family from Switzerland to the picurest valley's of Tasmania before deciding to settle in Brisbane due to its warm climate and quickly growing cosmopolitan lifestyle.
The move proved a success as a real Italian Trattoria was something not in existence in the Brisbane culinary scene.

Vine Caffe Restaurant and Bar Moray St

A great modern bistro with Italian flair, Vine offers a cafe menu during the day and modern Italian dishes with provincial specials at night. The dark polished wood furniture and chocolate leather banquettes complement the renaissance-style artworks and add to the Italian bistro feel. The field mushroom bruschetta is a tasty variation on a familiar starter while dishes like the gnocchi in a Napolitana sauce with sheep's milk ricotta are excellent to follow. Despite the modern twist on the food, the service has all the traditional warmth and welcome that one expects in a good Italian restaurant.

KGB Urban Blamey Road

KGB Urban Blamey Road

KGB Urban is a bistro-style restaurant situated opposite the Village Markets in Kelvin Grove. With the name a referring to the infamous Russian secret police, it' s apt that the setting is quite industrial. The exposed pipes ad
orning the ceilings and walls, floor-to-ceiling dark wooden beams, concrete floor and bright red feature walls will have you yelling ' long live Lenin! ' in no time. Couple your new enthusiasm for Russian Communism with the most popular dish for either lunch or dinner - the grilled vegetable fettuccini served with basil pesto and parmesan.

Louey's Italian Restaurant Rotherham St

Louey's Italian Restaurant Rotherham St

Frenchified fine diner SaVini has been reborn with new owners and a new Italian focus. Though the name might conjure up visions of a casual space complete with red chequered tablecloths and a jovial pizza maker, Louey's hasn't lost its slightly formal edge. The linen-draped tables remain, washed by the balmy Queensland air coming in through the open sides, but the space has been enhanced by a large lounge area. This is packed with bar tables where barflies can nibbles on Italian-style snacks. Those who opt for the whole sit-down deal can choose from traditional Italian mains, from osso bucco to gourmet thin-crust pizzas.

Acquolina Harbour Road Portside

Acquolina Harbour Road Portside

White linen-clothed, contemporary concrete-floored, panoramically glass-panelled, cool, neat and subdued. Sounds like your local Italian restaurant? Mine neither. But for the residents of Portside, their local is Acquolina, which occupies a prime position at the riverside complex and has nary a Chianti basket in sight. Outdoor diners get fewer frills on the table but are treated to water views to Newstead Park, and there's a semi-outdoor annex for those who can't decide.

Cosmopolitan Cafe Brunswick St

Stepping through the doors of the Cosmopolitan Cafe it's like the '70s never left - but in a good way, of course. The deco and furniture reflect the better parts of the decade and the atmosphere is friendly and casual, thanks in due part to the welcoming staff. Kiss Fine Food Cavendish Rd

This Coorparoo cafe presents a genial face to the world, from the mushy name to the sunny, plant-fringed frontage. But beyond the first impression of a simple, chirpy cafe, this eatery reveals a fine-dining heart. Kiss is the first venture of Brad Frischkorn, a seasoned chef who aims to bring more decent dining to the area without hitting his customers too hard in the pocket. Flava Lounge Old Cleveland Road

Recently taken over by a mother/daughter team, this ambitiously titled 15-year-old establishment is known for its breakfast omelettes. On any given morning, visitors to this house of fusion could expect to find themselves torn between the vegetarian option or the more aquatically inclined salmon version. It doesn't stop there either; there are plenty of other flavours to ponder as your morning-time brain kicks into gear.

If morning dining is not your thing, the Lounge also opens on weekend evenings. The welcome addition of a liquor licence means that patrons can knock back a glass or two while sampling one of the pasta or risotto dishes offered on the extensive menu.
